Delhi welcomes married couples from other states :
It’s a happy news for all the couples who got married in states other than Delhi, yes... as per the new policy Delhi government has relaxed its marriage registration rules which will help couples from other states in getting their marriages registered here without much hassle.
Earlier there was a clause in the Delhi Hindu Marriage Registration Rules, 1956 under which a marriage could only be registered in the city if the couple proves that either of them or parents of at least one of them have been a resident of the area falling under the jurisdiction of the registrar for at least a month. And to add to the trouble of the couples the marriage, however, was forced to take place in the capital.
Up till now the couples who wanted to get their marriages registered in the city were facing a lot of trouble. Of course any one would face problems with such clauses.
But now the Delhi Cabinet in a meeting held in the city did away with the clause thereby giving a sigh of relief to all the couples. Now couples from other states will be able to easily get their marriages registered in Delhi.
It is said that the government has come up with this move against the backdrop of several cases of honor killing taking place in the city. Even couples facing threat of 'khap' (clan) panchayats in neighboring states will also be able to get their marriages registered in the city.
