A Tribute To Soul of ghazal, Jagjit Singh 

Renowned ghazal singer Jagjit Singh passed away on 10th Oct. 2011, at 8 am in Lilavati Hospital, Mumbai  The singer was admitted to the Lilavati Hospital on September 23 after he suffered brain haemorrhage. Though a life-saving surgery was performed on him, he could not be rescued. Jagjit Singh was 70 and is survived by his wife Chitra Singh.

Jagjit Singh, who has been extremely critical since the past few weeks was on ventilator support.

Lovingly known as "The Ghazal King" Jagjit Singh rose to fame in the 1970s and 1980s, along with his singer wife Chitra Singh. He was the one who brought ghazals into Bollywood mainstream songs.

'Meri zindagi kisi aur ki', 'mere naam ka koi aur hai', 'Apni marzi se kahan apne safar ke hum hain', 'Wo jo hum mein tumme qaraar tha', 'Patta-patta boota-boota haal hamaara jaane hai', 'Hoshwalo ko khabar', are few of the wonderful songs sung by ghazal maestro Jagjit Singh. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2003.


His fan and joint commissioner of income tax, Paramjeet Singh, paid his tribute differently, "God, you called Steve Jobs because you wanted an iPod and now you want ghazals in it!"
