[FAO] Tips to help prevent Typhoid

(Please let the pics open. It may take some time on a slower connection.)

Tips to help prevent Typhoid

Typhoid is prevalent where sanitary conditions are poor. Therefore, a proper water supply and waste

disposal system is essential for the prevention of this disease.

Safe water for drinking and kitchen use is important.

Food should be hygienically prepared and stored.

Flies and cockroaches can spread the disease and must be dealt with effectively.

Persons handling food should be periodically examined, and their stool examination done.

Vaccines are available for protection against typhoid. The older TAB vaccine is no longer used.

Newer vaccines are widely available and provide immunity for approximately two years.
The immunity due to the vaccines needs to be boosted every two years by repeat doses.

Wash your hands well and often to prevent the possible spread of bacteria.

If you are going to be in a country at high risk for typhoid fever or in a rural area where

food choices may be limited, typhoid fever vaccines are available.
Speak with your physician about getting one.

People who have had typhoid fever should not prepare food or drinks for anyone

until their stool tests negative for the contagious bacteria.

Avoid raw vegetables and fruits, as well as any foods from local restaurants or street vendors.
